The Sortavala—Ruskeala route is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Republic of Karelia, connecting the city of Sortavala with the Ruskeala Mountain Park.
Due to increased tourist numbers and demand for access to key attractions, there was a need to expand and modernise transport services on this route.
We have developed a concept for the development of tourist bus transport infrastructure, including branding, navigation and route organisation. The project is based on an analysis of the current situation and future projections, taking into account the growing strain on transport and tourist infrastructure.
The project addresses several key issues:
eliminating the shortage of bus routes between the region's main tourist centres;
developing multimodal transport hubs that cover the main attractions;
integrating natural and historical-cultural sites into a single route network;
designing tour programmes of various durations and contents.
The result is an optimal route scheme and an architectural and urban planning concept for all retro bus stops, including transfer hubs for train, tram, and water transport.
Route scenarios for different tourist groups were also developed, alongside a navigation system that provides convenient and intuitive access to the main attractions in the Sortavala district.
