Seven central streets in Almaty — Rozybakiev, Zhandosov, Satpaev, Gogol, Auezov, Radostovets, and Makataev — required a redesign of the street space: improving pedestrian safety and comfort, redistributing traffic flows, and enhancing sustainable mobility. We proposed a comprehensive ‘facade-to-facade’ improvement programme and developed solutions for over 25 km of streets, taking into account local identity and urban structure.
Conducted a comprehensive analysis of traffic flows, accident rates, and the social, historical, cultural, environmental, and landscape context.
Developed transport schemes taking into account the implementation of the Almaty transport framework master plan, increasing street capacity, traffic safety, and the efficient use of street space.
Formed systematic design solutions: standard junctions, traffic organisation logic, approaches to the placement of equipment and small architectural forms.
Took into account the different status of streets: for key arteries, priority was given to public transport, while for district and local streets, the emphasis was on pedestrian safety and convenience.
Based on an analysis of transit flows and functional profiles, we proposed optimising traffic, eliminating bottlenecks and redistributing street space in favour of sustainable mobility.
Developed improvement concepts: landscaping, lighting, street furniture, small architectural forms and unique solutions that emphasise the identity of each section.
